Welcome
The Friends of Bitsy Grant Tennis is a non-profit volunteer organization working to improve and maintain the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center (BGTC), a historic tennis facility offering 23 lighted hard and clay (hydro-court har-tru) courts to the public. The BGTC is named after Bryan “Bitsy” Grant, a long-time Atlanta tennis legend and ever-present fixture on and off the Bitsy courts for much of his life.

Since 1952, Bitsy Grant has been making tennis available for a wide range of people – anyone can use the courts for a small fee. Today, BGTC is the largest public tennis facility in Atlanta with the only public clay courts available.
Formerly the headquarters of the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA), the largest grassroots tennis organization in the country, BGTC also hosted its major event, the Atlanta Invitational. All of the great players of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s participated in the Atlanta Invitational. Bitsy Grant was also once the showplace for tennis in the southeastern United States, hosting the 1955 U.S. Clay Court Championships and many other national and sectional championships. The USTA 40 Clay Championships were held at Bitsy Grant from 1983 to 1988.
Due to the deterioration of the center, Bitsy Grant took a long break from hosting any major events (last major event was the Georgia State Senior Open held in 2001) until last year, when BGTC hosted the 2009 Georgia State Adult/Senior Open Tennis Championship. This August, the Friends of Bitsy Grant, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of the facility, is proud to announce that the GA State Tennis Championship will return to Bitsy for the second straight year.
Bitsy Grant Tennis Center is a City of Atlanta recreation facility. Like the Bobby Jones Golf Course, which is also located at Atlanta Memorial Park, the tennis center is named for an Atlanta sports legend.
