Friends of Bitsy Grant
Friends of Bitsy Grant Tennis (FBGT) is a non-profit organization working to enhance and improve the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center (BGTC), a public park, for the benefit of current and future generations of Atlanta tennis players. The FBGT works closely with the City of Atlanta, the BGTC staff, and the expanding FBGT membership base to identify and prioritize opportunities to improve the tennis center for all who use it. In December 2010 we received the news that the City of Atlanta would support the renovation of the entire building with $540,000. Hundreds of community members have contributed financially to making possible the renovation. It has truly been a community-wide effort. To date, over $1.2 million of the approximately $1.3 million necessary to complete the renovation has been raised. The architectural firm Lord, Aeck and Sargent has worked energetically to finalize plans for construction and R.J. Griffin has signed on as the contractor. Construction has begun at the Center and is expected to be completed by July 2011. In the interim, Universal Tennis Management will operate in temporary structures at the facility.
For those wishing to play during the construction, please know that the Center will be open and operational via on-site facilities in the parking lot adjacent to the hard courts. Multiple on-site bathrooms will also be available. You may contact the Center at the regular number (404-609-7193) or the cell number (404-418-2099), but unfortunately during this period there will be no call-waiting and the staff will be unable to access voice messages. If the phone keeps ringing or a voice message picks up, please call back.
